Target Corporation
Target Corporation is a major retailer in the United States, headquartered in Minneapolis, managed by liberals. It is the second largest discount retailer in the U.S., behind Wal-Mart, operating, big-box stores and supercenters. It is infamous for various scandals, including the promotion of homosexuality, an apparent disregard for women's safety,[1] insecure computer systems leading to one of the largest customer information data breaches in history,[2] prohibiting the Salvation Army from collecting donations from its stores at Christmas time,[3] closing over one hundred stores in Canada after its failed expansion to that country less than two years prior,[4] and purchasing food products from suppliers who engage in animal cruelty.[5]
American Family Association boycott
Following a publicized 2016 announcement encouraging shoppers to use the bathroom of their choice rather than that of their physical gender, the American Family Association launched a boycott of the company. In a short period of time, over one million people pledged to join the boycott[6] This resulted in a decrease in Target Corporation's stock value.[7] Company executives have responded with a reaffirmation of their transgender policy.[8]
Data breach
In December 2013, hackers obtained customer information from Target's computer systems. This information contained credit card numbers, names, addresses, email addresses, and telephone numbers.[9] This data breach was one of the largest cyber attacks in history, affecting millions of shoppers. The company settled a lawsuit resulting from the breach for $10 million.[10] This breach prompted major changes to credit card processing in the United States, chiefly the introduction of RFID chip technology which was already common place elsewhere in the world.
