Talk:Sergei Rachmaninov

Return to "Sergei Rachmaninov" page.

Joaquín, I had not realised you had "done" Rachmaninov and have just finished one of my 700plus words on him...you know the sort of thing. Can I replace your copy and pastes with my article.AlanE 18:38, 5 October 2008 (EDT)

Be my guest; just try to save the valuable material please. --User:Joaquín Martínez, talk 18:58, 5 October 2008 (EDT)
I'm away for a few hours....AlanE 20:02, 5 October 2008 (EDT) And when I got back I was locked out...sigh.

Why Rachmaninoff and not Rachmaninov, which is the normal English spelling? There has always been some variation in Russian composer names but I have just checked my collection and they are ALL Rachmaninov, even my old Russian Melodiya LPs. The first 30 or 40 CD covers on my pet online CD shop have Rachmaninov. Reference books vary, but where it matters - the great music buying/listening public - its uniformly with a "v". (Just to be contrary, the Groves hardcover real live actual book version with paper pages an' all of your online site has him as "RACKmaninov. Go figure.)

I would like to somehow be able to link composers by their surnames alone, so that the word Tchaikovsky, for example, would be clickable instead of his whole unwieldy name. (We'll meet the complication of Boris Tchaikovsky when we come to it.) Just like typing the surname into the search box directs us to a page, the clickable link should too. Thanks for the "v"... (and is anyone else having all sorts of problems with access. I am and it looks like Jinx is. AlanE 17:51, 6 October 2008 (EDT)
