Talk:Roleplaying game

Return to "Roleplaying game" page.

Meh, not going to ask why this has been reverted back again. I've already had a conversation with one of the sysops about my edits (basically clearing up the terrible grammar, adding some examples of the genre and removing the unreferenced comments linking RPGs to murder and drug abuse (not specifically denying these things but unresourced statements like this are reactionary and not in the least professional).

Still, I'm sure the original version is fine too--Fingermouse 20:46, 10 April 2007 (EDT)

This should have a re-direct to Role-playing Games

The mediawiki style has nice support for plural words. If you link to [[Roleplaying Game]]s it shows up as Roleplaying Games. In this way, you can have articles for singular items and don't have to have redirects for all of the plural items. If you flip this around, you will find that you need as many redirects for each singular term, cluttering up the wiki. If anything, this should be moved to roleplaying game - it is not a proper noun. --Mtur 15:41, 10 April 2007 (EDT)

Role-playing and Psychiatry

Anyone have any thoughts about this subject and its application by Psychologists? --~ TK MyTalk 15:19, 10 April 2007 (EDT)

Not sure what you mean there, TK. I probably would have some if you wouldn't mind clarifying. Murray 15:21, 10 April 2007 (EDT)
Me too! My psychologist used RPG on me. It was great. User:Phiattiangel

Glad it worked!!  :-) See? We "peons" do know a thing or two, eh?  ;-) Would you guys consider entering a section about how it originated with therapists, and its modern-day use? --~ TK MyTalk 15:33, 10 April 2007 (EDT)

I think it's something that's worthwhile to have in general but don't think it belongs here. It's a much different animal than a fantasy role-playing game. It would be appropriate to link from here maybe to a page on role-playing in therapy, or on therapy in general that includes a role-playing section. Murray 15:35, 10 April 2007 (EDT)
You might find the Journal of Virtual Environments[1] a useful resource when researching this - [2] [3] [4] [5] --Mtur 15:40, 10 April 2007 (EDT)

Mtur, if you know the subject matter, and have the ready references, maybe you would like to add it? Murray, the idea of the electronic games came from Psychology! --~ TK MyTalk 15:45, 10 April 2007 (EDT)

Well TK maybe I misunderstood what you meant. It sounded to me like you wanted a discussion of how role-playing is used in psychotherapy included in this article, which I commented on above. The way that works does not at all resemble the games described in the article. If what you were referring to was that the idea for the games described in the article came from psychology originally, that's a very logical addition. Murray 16:00, 10 April 2007 (EDT)
  • Thank you. :-) --~ TK MyTalk 16:04, 10 April 2007 (EDT)

Merge

I suggest that the content of this page be moved to Roleplaying games, since the content of this page seems more comprehensive. DrSandstone 16:44, 25 April 2007 (EDT)

Does anyone have an opinion on this besides myself? It seems redundant to have a roleplaying games and Roleplaying game.
I concur. singular/plural articles are not necessary. HeartOfGold 18:42, 16 May 2007 (EDT)

Suggest to move to "Role-playing game"

"Role-playing game" currently redirects here. A precise search on Google of "roleplaying games" returned 2.2m results, while "role-playing games" returned 21m. It should be obvious that the suggested name is the commonly used term. WP also uses the suggested name for the concept. --Luminoxius (talk) 23:08, 24 May 2021 (EDT)

I agree with this idea. It looked weird seeing the page title without a dash. Patriotic Gamer (talk) 00:05, 25 May 2021 (EDT)
