I find the article informative and accurate, plus the evidence of the KKK once had an upper hand in Oakland's local politics. Ironically, the city has one of the highest percentage of African-Americans in the country, as well the highest even over Los Angeles in the West Coast. In the 1930 census, San Francisco had the highest "white" Caucasian percentage of any urban area even ahead of Los Angeles. But in that time, Mexicans (or Mexican-Americans) were a separate racial group in the federal government's ethnic/racial classification data until the Mexican-American population was reclassified under "white" in 1945. + Getitstraight 11:17, 14 December 2009 (EST)

I've added in a section on some more recent Oakland history, including the civil unrest surrounding both Occupy Oakland and the Oscar Grant shooting, as well as the growth of the city as a key player in sustainable agriculture practices. As an Oakland local, much of this is simply general knowledge to me, but I'll do my best to find some solid sources to cite for others, as well as expanding the section a bit.--Guitarsniper 15:40, 7 July 2012 (EDT)
