It's funny to read Dilma Rousseff labeled "Marxist", since in the 13 years of her party's misgovernment the only ones who profited were the dozen or so of the most rich people in Brazil. If "left" is governing for the people and "right" for the rich (which it isn't, but that's how leftists think about themselves), then Dilma and Lula were extreme-extreme-extreme-right. Sunda62 (talk) 11:25, 14 May 2016 (EDT)

But this is the argument that the left uses to say they have no blame of the shit that PT did in Brazil: say the party is on the right because governed for the rich, which the left has always done since born. All that Dilma did makes she's more Marxist and fascist.--Renan Jackson (talk) 11:56, 4 June 2016 (EDT)

Very good read on Bolsanaro. Recommended! RobSDeep Six the Deep State! 16:50, 9 October 2018 (EDT)

Unrelated to the above, this article might be helpful when looking at who Bolsonaro chooses for his cabinet: [1] --1990'sguy (talk) 00:02, 30 October 2018 (EDT)
Pssst, Rumor is, Bolsanaro is going to force regime change in Venezuela so the U.S. doesn't dirty its hands. Keep it on the down low. RobSDeep Six the Deep State! 19:24, 3 November 2018 (EDT)
Update. Russia, China, and Iran are already in place to bolster Maduro in anticipation of no U.S. response. RobSDeep Six the Deep State! 17:07, 8 February 2019 (EST)

And another heads up: I'd be careful about marrying Bolsanaro too close to Trump, IMO. You may have to walk it all back at some point. Brazilian politics are notoriously corrupt. Right now, Brazil is cashing in big time on trade deals with China after Trump's tariffs. RobSDeep Six the Deep State! 13:52, 5 November 2018 (EST)

Good point. If Bolsonaro does shift, we should still note that he held conservative positions prior to his election and hold him accountable. --1990'sguy (talk) 15:57, 5 November 2018 (EST)
It's the critics that call him the Brazilian Trump, which is a code word for him being racist. It has little to do with his conservative or ringwing associations. He's largely regarded by them as a brainless boob and front man for the corrupt powers that be. According to this article, "more than half of senators and one third of Congress are facing criminal investigations." The article also claims the real power center remains the Brazilian military.
Sure, the article is written by a longtime leftwing Brazilian journalist, however the editors of consortiumnews are among the best in reporting on intelligence matters. RobSDeep Six the Deep State! 17:41, 5 November 2018 (EST)
Unlike Trump, Bolsonaro is not a man of independent wealth. He is indeed the front man for traditional ruling circles. While the US & Brazil may see eye to eye on Venezuela, it remains to be seen cooperation on China. Brazil is picking up many of the trade contracts dropped due to tariffs. That income to China fuels the Chinese military build-up. If Bolsonaro agrees with Trump on restricting Chinese inports, than a closer association between Trump and Bolsonaro can be made. RobSDeep Six the Deep State!

Here's an interesting (paywall) op-ed regarding evangelical support for Bolsonaro: [2] --1990'sguy (talk) 23:15, 6 November 2018 (EST)

This article (despite the paywall) seems critical of Bolsonaro, but it describes him as "2018's biggest winner": [3] --1990'sguy (talk) 00:09, 9 January 2019 (EST)
I am not adding this article (for, hopefully, obvious reasons), but it is very in-depth and very interesting and helpful: [4] --1990'sguy (talk) 00:14, 9 January 2019 (EST)
This article discusses divisions in Bolsonaro's cabinet: [5] --1990'sguy (talk) 14:56, 9 January 2019 (EST)

Also, this article on Bolsonaro's social media use/strategy is interesting: [7] --1990'sguy (talk) 23:20, 12 January 2019 (EST)
This is another article that is biased and exaggerates, but it does state that conservatives viewed his order increasing gun rights as not going as far as they had expected: [8] --1990'sguy (talk) 18:23, 19 January 2019 (EST)
Another article on Bolsonaro's gun decree -- biased, but very detailed: [9] --1990'sguy (talk) 23:46, 25 January 2019 (EST)
Here's an interesting list of books Bolsonaro has promoted in the past several months: [10] Also, hopefully, Bolsonaro won't backtrack on his pro-deregulation policy, considering what this article says about him: [11] --1990'sguy (talk) 12:12, 29 January 2019 (EST)
Bolsonaro allies were elected the leaders of both Brazil's upper and lower houses: 1,2,3 --1990'sguy (talk) 17:36, 2 February 2019 (EST)
This article is incredibly biased against Bolsonaro and conservatives, but it still gives detailed information on what appears to be a real scism in Bolsonaro's cabinet, between conservatives and moderates/liberals: [12] --1990'sguy (talk) 22:47, 22 February 2019 (EST)
A somewhat interesting article discussing Bolsonaro's first two months, focusing on his economic policy: [13] --1990'sguy (talk) 22:22, 1 March 2019 (EST)
Bolsonaro's government ended visa requirements for people from the U.S. and a few other countries: [14] --1990'sguy (talk) 08:46, 19 March 2019 (EDT)
An unsurprisingly biased article from The New Yorker, but still interesting to read: [15] --1990'sguy (talk) 17:22, 1 April 2019 (EDT)
Bolsonaro fired his education minister (who seems to have been a great guy), but fortunately, he replaced him with another apparent conservative (who the media doesn't like): 1,2 --1990'sguy (talk) 21:33, 12 April 2019 (EDT)
NYT profile of Bolsonaro's first 100 days -- it's not positive, but remember, it's the NYT: [16] --1990'sguy (talk) 23:46, 16 April 2019 (EDT)
Some more interesting articles, mainly on the internal ideological divisions in Bolsonaro's government (and, like usual, not necessarily articles I agree with): 1,2,3 --1990'sguy (talk) 10:40, 8 May 2019 (EDT)
Watch for pro-Bolsonaro rallies later today (Sunday): [17] --1990'sguy (talk) 02:18, 26 May 2019 (EDT)
The pro-Bolsonaro rallies have started: [18] --1990'sguy (talk) 15:41, 26 May 2019 (EDT)
Sergio Moro is apparently seeing some setbacks as justice minister: [19] --1990'sguy (talk) 02:00, 30 May 2019 (EDT)

Jerusalem

We will know soon if Bolsonaro is the real deal or a weak status-quo president. He seems to be backtracking on whether to move Brazil's embassy to Jerusalem: [23] The media has been portraying him as being even more right-wing as Donald Trump, so we'll find out if Bolsonaro has a backbone like Trump. --1990'sguy (talk) 10:36, 8 November 2018 (EST)

Bolsonaro met with Netanyahu, but there was no embassy announcement: [24] --1990'sguy (talk) 11:33, 29 December 2018 (EST)
The Israelis think Bolsonaro is still likely going to move the embassy: [25][26][27][28] --1990'sguy (talk) 10:22, 30 December 2018 (EST)
Bolsonaro seems to be abandoning his promise to move the embassy, instead saying he might possibly open a "business office" in Jerusalem: [29] --1990'sguy (talk) 16:19, 28 March 2019 (EDT)
Again, American MSM portrayals of him being "rightwing", "conservative", and "Trump-like" are leftist codewords for him being a racist. The Brazilian left used the same language in the recent election. True, the anti-drug Evangelicals supported Bolsonaro, but basically it's a coalition of entrenched militarists and law-and-order evangelicals fighting Soros-funded leftist mobs in Brazil right now, complete with the LGBTQXYZs. It's a mistake to think they have anything like a functioning democracy in their legislature. RobSDeep Six the Deep State! 10:50, 8 November 2018 (EST)
Now, he has apparently abandoned his promise to merge the agriculture and environment ministries: [30] --1990'sguy (talk) 09:47, 9 November 2018 (EST)
A good sign, the Brazilian government (pre-Bolsonaro) canceled Brazil's hosting of a UN climate meeting next year: 1,2 --1990'sguy (talk) 16:18, 28 November 2018 (EST)
The Trump Administration is trying to convince Bolsonaro to leave the Paris agreement: [31][32] --1990'sguy (talk) 10:22, 30 December 2018 (EST)
Overview article on Bolsonaro's environmental policies: [33] --1990'sguy (talk) 19:01, 19 August 2019 (EDT)

Spouse

His spouse is called Michelle Bolsonaro, he is divorced from Ana Cristina Valle --Brazilian (talk) 21:51, 29 November 2018 (EST)

Things to watch

Brazil's parliament will try to pass a bill recognizing the right to own a gun for self-defense: [35] --1990'sguy (talk) 09:37, 3 December 2018 (EST)

On the bright side, Brazil's incoming foreign minister says Brazil will quit the UN Migrant Treaty,[36][37] but on the other hand, the incoming environment minister says that the country should remain in the Paris agreement.[38] --1990'sguy (talk) 12:15, 11 December 2018 (EST)
Bolsonaro said he would sign a decree allowing all non-criminals to buy guns: [39][40] --1990'sguy (talk) 17:25, 29 December 2018 (EST)
Bolsonaro wants schools to revise how they treat the country's 1964 coup -- this may not be significant enough to add to the article, so I'm noting it here: 1,2 --1990'sguy (talk) 23:56, 6 April 2019 (EDT)
Unfortunately, Bolsonaro does not appear to support privatizing Brazil's postal service anymore: [41] --1990'sguy (talk) 18:43, 19 April 2019 (EDT)

Jair Bolsonaro was a great choice for our first runner-up in Conservative of the Year 2018!--Andy Schlafly (talk) 12:49, 9 January 2019 (EST)

I completely agree -- he was an excellent choice. --1990'sguy (talk) 14:56, 9 January 2019 (EST)

Alexa

Looks like the Bolsonaro coverage is bringing in traffic from Brazil. RobSDeep Six the Deep State! 21:29, 22 January 2019 (EST)

That's fascinating. Back in 2006 or 2007, in the early days of Conservapedia, a Brazilian newspaper did a very fair article about us.--Andy Schlafly (talk) 21:32, 22 January 2019 (EST)
They have just as bad a problem in Brazil with fake news mainstream media; people are probably starved for information. With the right search terms (for example, names of other prominent Brazilians), it should continue, it could probably be expanded. RobSDeep Six the Deep State! 21:35, 22 January 2019 (EST)
I recommend we start with members of Bolsonaro's cabinet, including nationalist/anti-Marxist foreign minister Ernesto Araujo and justice minister Sergio Moro, and vice president Hamilton Mourão.
We also need a page on the previous president Michel Temer, as well as the conservative Christian party Patriota. --1990'sguy (talk) 00:35, 23 January 2019 (EST)
If someone would create the proposed articles above, I would appreciate it. Considering our Brazilian traffic, as well as Bolsonaro's conservative policies, I might create a "Jair Bolsonaro achievements" article soon. --1990'sguy (talk) 10:42, 23 January 2019 (EST)

Legislative agenda

Bolsonaro saw his first defeat in Brazil's congress, with a relatively minor order affecting the country's freedom of information laws being reversed: 1,2 --1990'sguy (talk) 13:58, 20 February 2019 (EST)

Brazil's house affirmed Bolsonaro's proposed cabinet reduction but rejected giving greater power to the country's justice minister: 1,2,3 --1990'sguy (talk) 01:28, 23 May 2019 (EDT)
The House rejected a proposal to weaken an agency in charge of indigenous matters: [42] --1990'sguy (talk) 15:59, 23 May 2019 (EDT)
A Bolsonaro-supported action related to the environment has been rejected by Brazil's congress: [43] --1990'sguy (talk) 02:00, 30 May 2019 (EDT)
The Senate voted against a pro-gun order by Bolsonaro, though the House could still potentially keep it in place: [44] --1990'sguy (talk) 21:45, 18 June 2019 (EDT)
Brazil's Congress rejected Bolsonaro's decree weakening an agency in charge of indigenous matters: [45] --1990'sguy (talk) 21:35, 25 June 2019 (EDT)
