Ethical quandary

I don't mean to diminish the import of this event, but around the holidays I always seem to come back to it in my contemplations. I ask myself, would the adult Christ have wanted this event to take place? Would He, if He were in the position to make the decision at the time, rather have sacrificed Himself then to Herod to protect those other innocents? Would that have been the morally right decision? I will admit that I have no answers to these questions, but they weigh heavily on my mind right now, and I'm hoping that perhaps some other people more familiar with the relevant biblical passages and theology in general might be able to help me resolve them. --DTSavage 13:22, 16 December 2012 (EST)

They are good questions. My own opinion is that the model of God as an "all-knowing, all-powerful" is not the most precise starting point, because God is not likely to spend all his time worrying about what bad people do. God does not pay attention to the Devil 24 hours each day.

The massacre of the Holy Innocents was probably not anticipated by God, and He may not have been focusing on it. The Devil gets away with a lot in this world. Otherwise there would be no role for a Final Judgment.--Andy Schlafly 13:28, 16 December 2012 (EST)
