Talk:Football sports
In deference to our friends across the pond (i.e., in the UK and Ireland) and down under (e.g., Australia) I should like to find an arrangement of articles and titles that suits all readers. No single word causes more irritation perhaps than "football" being equated with the violent, muscle-bound, equipment-laden, stopping-and-starting game of American football. Just about everyone else regards football (or "footie") as the more gentlemanly, fleet-footed, no-equipment, continuous action game of soccer. Even to talk about the terms is to give offense, as the words we use are deeply rooted in our culture:
As an American, I have no desire to impose my terminology on my friends from abroad, but most of this encyclopedia's readers "Americans" (alas, another term which arouses wrath). Yet so many of our contributors are "British".
Perhaps we need a Conservapedia:Terminology article to address these value-laden, emotionally tangled differences. --Ed Poor Talk 07:53, 29 November 2008 (EST)
Field goals in American and Canadian football
The table says that a field goal needs to go "above" the posts in the US and Canadian games, but it needs to go between the uprights. I don't want to mess up the table though, so maybe someone else can make the correction? StephenE 16:01, 15 July 2009 (EDT)
