I removed the line about the research being far fetched for two reasons: one, the line is pure opinion, and shouldn't be placed in an Encyclopedic article, and two, it's really not that far fetched. Researchers in the Keys have shown that Dolphins understand basic numeracy and have actually taught them simple math, and another study showed that Dolphins were smart enough to recognize patterns and predict future events. Characters in the movie speculate about human-dolphin communication, and an demonstration is videotaped for a meeting in which one dolphin supposedly communicates to another dolphin the description of an object dropped into its tank. This instance of inter-dolphin communication is dismissed as an instance of the Clever Hans phenomenon.
Then the girl meets a lonely dolphin and makes a pet of it. She can call it by slapping the water with her hand.
My analysis: This movie demonstrates the fact that some animals can be tamed, and that these animals will come when called.
I will examine the references about dolphin math - but these shouldn't be in the movie description until we have articles about dolphin intelligence or dolphin communication. First things first, you know. --Ed Poor Talk 10:10, 20 November 2008 (EST)
