Talk:Atheism and obesity

6,433 bytes added, 00:18, January 2, 2020
In 2015, Richard Dawkins published a YouTube video where he told an obviously overweight Daniel Dennett who recently had coronary artery bypass surgery, "It is amazing seeing you so fit...". Sad!
Given Conservapedia's dedication to providing information that is as accurate as possible, I'm sure that someone in control of this article will make the necessary corrections. Thanks in advance. --Tylero 16:54, 6 January 2011 (EST)
::::Fixed. I wrote: While many Western atheists are non-religious, not all non-religious people are atheists. I did this to avoid the contentious debate on whether Western atheism is a religion. I believe it can be easily argued that Western atheism is a religion and that is probably going to be incorporated in the atheism article at a future date. User: JamesTimmons, the article has been expanded and now looks at regional data (irreligious countries), generational data and a number of studies related to religion/irreligion obesity/health/behavior (self-discipline, etc.). In addition, the list of notable atheists who are overweight/obese has been greatly expanded. There is now an embarrassment of riches showing that the atheist/irreligious population has a significant problem with obesity/excess weight.Conservative (talk) 11:08, 2 March 2019 (EST)
The elephant in the room
I just read through nearly half of this article and fact-checked every claim it made, and there wasn't so much as one single error. To whoever the authors are, this is quite the article!--AnthonyDW 18:27, 19 January 2011 (EST)
:Martin Luther, the founder of Protestantism, tacked his 95 thesis onto the doors of the Castle Church in Wittenberg. Conservapedia has its list of 82 prominent overweight/obese atheists plus it provided multiple lines of evidence that the atheist population has a significant problem of obesity within its ranks!!!!! These 82 prominent atheists are prominent both in stature within the atheists population and prominent in girth as well! And this is despite the fact that atheists have no holiday season that features eggnog and cookies. Wikignome72 (talk) 04:31, 25 December 2019 (EST)

While I feel obesity is a Western culture phenom, there are many more examples of obese atheists to add. Try a search for celebrity atheists and you'll be quite surprised. --Jpatt 22:31, 20 April 2011 (EDT)
:As the East gains more access to process processed food via global markets and gains in prosperity, obesity is spreading to the East as can be seen in this report on India. However, unlike atheists, Christians have lots of songs including dance music. Indian Christian dancers seem to be fairly immune to obesity. == Relation to obesity ==
Do I expect the situation to change? No. Obesity is a too-easily-applied ad hominem, and it appears there is much enjoyment here on CP in using it. But you should strongly consider arguing the issues (atheism, homosexuality, feminism, etc. and so forth) instead of taking the easy way out and attacking the person. It's the grown-up thing to do. --SharonW 15:28, 22 September 2011 (EDT)
::I recently helped an atheist/agnostic businesswoman with a long standing problem that negatively affected her business (She maintains she is an atheist, but admitted she cannot categorically declare that God does not exist. See: Attempts to dilute the definition of atheism). I did not charge her for the assistance either. She was very grateful for my assistance and I don't regret helping her. I have no personal animosity towards atheists. Conservative 19:03, 19 March 2015 (EDT)

::::PHARISEES: One way the Pharisees attacked Jesus was by calling him a glutton. Do you think they were right or justified to do so? How do your accusations of gluttony, used to attack atheists and homosexuals, differ from the Pharisees' attacks on Jesus, if at all? What do you think was the Pharisees' basis for being against gluttony? Would it have been scriptural? Would it have been justified? How would it have differed, if at all, from your own scriptural basis? Is it possible that you have followed the same process as the Pharisees in arriving at your own views about gluttony?--CPalmer 08:16, 3 July 2012 (EDT)

:As far as the sin of gluttony, it is a sin. A sin is a big deal to God. That is why Jesus dies on the cross. And unrepentant sinners will go to Hell. ==Article Structure==
:AlanE, Charles Darwin wasn't the first person to promote evolutionary ideas. Evolutionary ideas were taught by the ancient Greeks as early as the 7th century B.C.
:Second, as far as the Erasmus Darwin/evolutionist issue, please read this article: Darwinism: it was all in the family: Erasmus Darwin’s famous grandson learned early about evolution. Furthermore, Erasmus Darwin appears to have been a "freethinker".. ==Medical opinion==
2. Are there a number of prominent atheists with excess weight issues? Does medical science have effective methods to lose weight? Do nutritionists and exercise scientists have effective methods of losing weight such as cutting out processed foods, eating a low calorie and low fat diet combined with vigorous exercise? If so, why are so many of the overweight atheists featured in this article still overweight? Do they love pie and other fattening foods and also love being a coach potato more than they love science?
3. Based on the historical data, which historically likely had a greater problem with obesity: Jesus and his disciples or the leadership of the New Atheist movement? See: New Atheism leadership's problem with excess weight and Jesus Christ, the apostles and the Mediterranean diet/Mosaic diet. Also, please see these tons of pictures of Orthodox Jews which I presume eat a Mosaic diet. Notice how slim they are!
4. Is the atheist PZ Myers overweight in THIS PICTURE - especially in his abdominal area?
I am not going to further engage with someone that I believe lacks integrity no matter how much you wish to blather on. I don't believe anything you say at this point. You past edits to atheism article talk pages and your disingenuous behavior on this talk page lets me know that you are not worth engaging with. Conservative 16:27, 19 March 2015 (EDT)
::Tomqua, I just don't know where to begin. Except to tell you that Cons frequently goes off on personal tangents involving accusing someone of being an atheist, and not believing them when they say they are not. The "atheism and obesity" article is, in any case, so stupid and pointless, and this page so full of irrelevancies, that it's not worth any discussion. SamHB 16:57, 19 March 2015 (EDT)
:::SamHB, the atheism and obesity article continues to be a thorn in the side of overweight atheists with excessive sides!

:::Second, there is a London, England atheist who is a liar and also obsessed with me. He is proud, angry, coarse and immature. Tomque's pattern of atheism related talk page edits directed towards me, his use of the fallacy of exclusion (which this London atheist often employs), his most recent coarse edit (which I oversighted) combined with his IP address, points to him being this London atheist. Ricky Gervais has been known to be highly critical of religion as well as a strong atheist. He is also somewhat...portly. He would make a good addition to this page. JohnSelway (talk) 00:49, 8 December 2015 (EST)
:I don't think he is portly enough. And because people are creatures of habit and he is in his 50s, chances are he will never be portly. Conservative (talk) 08:55, 8 December 2015 (EST)
