The big beneficiary from the collapse of the Assyrian Empire was the Persian Empire. Babylonia did not survive very long after the end of the Assyrian Empire.Oldoligarch 14:19, 26 June 2007 (EDT)

Jpatt; my understanding has always been that at that time Samaria was the capital of the northern kingdom of Israel; that in 724BC king Hoshea of Israel rebelled against Assyrians, and that in 721 the Assyrians finally succeeded in overcoming the city, thus ending Israel’s life as an independent entity. When the region regained a degree of independence later in history, it was as Samaria; but at the time of the Assyrian conquest it was Israel.AlanE 18:19, 3 November 2008 (EST)ges

I have viewd many of the other pages such as Judah, all listing the Northern kingdom as Israel. So I must be mistaken.--Jpatt 18:22, 3 November 2008 (EST)
