Um, was anyone planning to talk about Africa other than to refer to colonization?

Like, maybe you'd talk about it being full of nations of people? Or the fact that American slaves came from there? previous unsigned comment added by User:SmartChristian

Or the fact that Turkey took slaves from there? Bohdan 20:58, 28 June 2007 (EDT)

Well, its open for constructive editing :) File:User Fox.png Fox (talk|contribs) 21:01, 28 June 2007 (EDT)

Come On People

Africa is South-EAST of Asia? That's been in this entry since November of last year? This does not make me think highly of this site.

Trring to justify colonialism

I have a hard time understanding why contributors to this page a trying to put a pretty face on the colonial episode - thrying to paint abusive labor practices as thouh they gave "idle Africans" something to do and a wage, when none of the proceeds went to the benefit of the people whose land it was before the Euros pushed them off it. Colonialism was and remains evil and went against basic conservative ideas like freedom of ownership, control of one's own property and controlling one's own economic destiny. -Sevenstring

Garden of Eden location?

I heard Eden was in Iraq, probably.... claim is in Ethiopia seems false ChineseChristian 03:39, 15 May 2007 (EDT)

Yes, most claims about the location of Eden base it in the Iraq/Iran/Eastern Turkey area. Still, The claim should stand if it was made by some authoritative person or body, rather than by (eg) the Ethiopian Tourism department!

Pre-colonial History Omitted

This entry manifests the racist idea that no relevant history occurred in Africa prior to European colonization of the continent.

Misconception

I'm going to go out on a limb here and say that I don't think there is a "very common misconception" that the continent of Africa is one entire country. It seems a little far fetched to me. Do you have any examples of people not knowing that the entire continent is made up of tiny countries? HelpJazz 23:09, 6 November 2008 (EST)

It was recently revealed that Sarah Palin had this misconception, and if a vice presidential candidate had it, then certainly it must be common. --DRamon 23:38, 6 November 2008 (EST)
I can't help but think that somehow this claim was taken out of context, honestly misspoken, or something in that vein. I am no Palin fan, believe me, but some of these claims by "top aides" seem hard to swallow. How could she not know that Africa consists of multiple countries? ~~
