The Supreme Court of Pennsylvania is a seven-Justice tribunal that presides over the state court system. It is the oldest appellate court in the nation, tracing its roots back to 1722.

Unlike most states, in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania each local county has its own separate court rules of procedure, which can be idiosyncratic. There are 67 separate counties in Pennsylvania.
