Stephen Clark “Steve” Bullock (born April 11, 1966, age 57) is a lawyer, professor emeritus, and Democrat politician who is the 24th and current governor of Montana, having been elected to the position in 2012 and re-elected in 2016. A left-winger, Bullock supports late-term abortion.[1] He is also strongly anti-Trump and was an advocate for the impeachment coup.[2] Unsurprisingly, he has received the backing of the Lincoln Project, a liberal group among the Never Trump movement.[3]
Contents
Governor of Montana
2012 election
Bullock was elected to become the governor of Montana in the 2012 gubernatorial election, defeating his Republican opponent by less than 2% of the vote.[4]
2016 election
Gov. Bullock won re-election in the 2016 gubernatorial election with just over 50% of the vote in 2016,[5] despite Donald Trump having also won the state in a much larger margin.
Tenure
Despite claims of being a supposed “moderate” Democrat,[6][7] Bullock is a leftist who refused to sign a statewide "born alive" bill banning infanticide[8] out of pro-abortion stubbornness and who called for a federal minimum wage of $15/hour while hypocritcally having only paid his own interns $9/hour.[9] Bullock paid his female staff less than males in spite of his "equal pay" pledge.[10]
2020 Senate run
After dropping out of the 2020 presidential race, Bullock later announced his run for U.S. Senate in the 2020 United States Senate election in Montana to attempt unseating current Republican one-term incumbent Steve Daines[11] despite previously insisting that he would not consider a bid for the seat.[12]
Bullock was backed by ActBlue[13] as well as a dark money/billionaire-funded super PAC disguising itself as a "grassroots" group.[14]
Bullock claims to support the Second Amendment in his ads, but in reality he has an extreme position on gun control (such as calling for a ban on semi-automatic firearms) and got an F from the NRA.[15][16]
Democrat primary
Bullock won his party's primary election with over 90% of the vote.[17]
Election
He lost to Steve Daines in the general election, carrying just 45% of the vote.
Controversies
Bullock reportedly solicited Chinese investments via ties to an EB-5 visa program.[18] He has also faced accusations of intimidation and fraud.[19]
A poster child for liberal hypocrisy, Bullock celebrated "Women's Equality Day"[20] despite paying his female staffers less than their male co-workers.[21] He also called for raising the federal minimum wage to $15/hour despite paying his own interns lower than that rate.[22]
Commenting on a DNC debate in late 2019, Bullock said that Democrats were "less inclusive" than Republicans.[23] Indeed, it was reported in mid-2020 that his own aide had a history of extremely sexist, homophobic comments.[24]
General election results
Bullock lost the general election to Daines by ten points despite fake polling showing a supposedly close race.[25]
