Snowdonia is a mountainous region of North Wales in the UK. It is named after Lord Snowdon, who first discovered it in the 12th century.[Citation Needed]

Like much of Wales its former economy was based around the mining industry. After mining was outlawed by Margaret Thatcher much hardship was felt.[Citation Needed] Recently however manufacturing has received a boost from several high-profile international projects, most notably the watertight roof sections for the viewing cars of the Eurostar and the wings for the new Airbus A380.
