Shechem was one of the oldest settlements in Canaan.[1] It is currently the Palestinian city of Nablus.

Shechem was also the name of the prince who forced himself upon Dinah, Jacob's daughter and wanted to marry her. Dinah's brothers had the entire town circumcised for the marriage to take place, and then two of the brothers Reuben and Levi slew Shechem and all of the men from the town. (Genesis 34)
