Shane Aguirre (born December 11, 1972) is an accountant from his native Tupelo, Mississippi, who has been since 2016 the Republican state representative for District 17 in Lee County in the northeastern portion of his state.[1]

Aguirre was educated at Mississippi State University in Starkville with a bachelor's degree in public accounting in 1995 and the University of Mississippi at Oxford, from which he obtained in 1997 a master's in public accounting. Since 2005, he has been the chief financial officer of Alliance Healthcare Systems; since 2011, he has held the same position with Montgomery Enterprises, Inc. He is a member of the United Methodist denomination.[2]

In 2015, Aguirre won the Republican nomination for House District 17 over his intra-party rival, Mark Prince. The position opened with the incumbent Republican Brian Aldridge did not seek reelection. Aguirre then won the general election with nearly 76 percent of the vote over his opponent, Democrat Charles Penson.[3] Aguirre serves on these House committees: (1) Banking and Financial Services (vice chairman), (2) Gaming, and (3) Judiciary A.[1]

In 2016, he voted to prohibit dismemberment abortions in Mississippi. He voted to grant civil and criminal immunity to those reporting what they believe are instances of terrorism. He voted to permit churches to have designated personnel with firearms and to guarantee protections for religious beliefs and matters of moral conscience. In 2017, he voted to authorize additional methods of execution in Mississippi and to classify the killing of first responders as first-degree murder.[4]
