Rust Belt

The Rust Belt is the region from northern Illinois eastward and northward through Michigan and Pennsylvania where heavy industry—particularly steel and products using steel—have declined ("rusted").
Ohio, Pennsylvania, and Michigan are the primary Rust Belt states. Regions of Wisconsin, northern Indiana and Illinois, and western New York can also be included in the Rust Belt.
