The Rosetta Stone contains an ancient message written on stone in three languages which provided the key to deciphering Egyptian hieroglyphics.

It is an Egyptian writing made in 196 BC which inscribes the same message in hieroglyphics, demotic and Greek. When it was found in AD 1779, it enabled the translation of hieroglyphics for the first time. The hieroglyphics were first deciphered by Jean-Francois Champollion in 1822.
