Outing is the practice of revealing the sexual identity of a homosexual against his will, forcing him to "come out of the closet". Many homosexual activists have outed famous individuals, causing significant damage to these people's families, their businesses, and their associates. Despite these clear repercussions, gay activists proceed with the outing under the premise that it's important to have yet another openly acknowledged homosexual.

False outings can sometimes do as much damage as the outing of an actual homosexual and can ruin the reputation of an innocent, respectable person.
