Orthodox is Greek for "correct" (or right) "words". Orthodoxic religions generally involve canons of liturgical belief and ritualized statements of adherence to those beliefs.

It can be compared with Orthopraxy "right behavior". An orthodoxic religion stresses a person's belief or statements in the "right things", while an Orthopraxic religion stresses "doing the right thing".

More generally, "orthodox" means conforming to any established doctrine, especially in religion.[1] The noun form is "orthodoxy."
