Northwestern University is an Illinois private university founded in 1851.[3] It ranked #12 in US News's 2013 National Universities Rankings.[4]

It has several prominent graduate schools, including high-ranking law and business schools.

Athletics

Northwestern has 12 women's and 9 men's sports teams.[1] The football program has won 1 bowl game (while losing 5).[5]

Liberalism

Located near the liberal city of Chicago in the liberal state of Illinois, Northwestern has often graduated alumni who go on to be highly prominent liberal figures. Some of the most prominent examples include:
