Nile River

The River Nile in Africa, is (by a small number of miles only, over the Amazon River) the longest river in the world. From its source in the Mountains of the Moon to its delta in Egypt, it is 4,180 miles long.

Stretches of the Nile are home to much interesting wildlife, notably the hippopotamus, the Nile crocodile, and the Nile perch, a large fish.

The Nile in the Bible

The Nile was the river into which the baby Moses was cast to escape the mandate by the Pharoah which stated that all Hebrew males should be killed.

And when she could not longer hide him, she took for him an ark of bulrushes, and daubed it with slime and with pitch, and put the child therein; and she laid it in the flags by the river's brink. And his sister stood afar off, to wit what would be done to him. And the daughter of Pharaoh came down to wash herself at the river; and her maidens walked along by the river's side; and when she saw the ark among the flags, she sent her maid to fetch it. (Exodus 2:3-5, KJV)
