Michael Farrand Bennet (born November 28, 1964) is the junior United States Senator from Colorado and a member of the Democratic Party, after being appointed by Governor Bill Ritter to replace now Secretary of the Interior Ken Salazar. Bennet was little known in Colorado and his appointment was a surprise. He has voted with his Democrat colleagues 91% of the time. [1] Previously he served an appointed position as superintendent of Denver Public Schools.
Bennet is a candidate for reelection in 2010. Polls in Sept. 2009 show him trailing Republican Jane Norton, 36% to 45%. Norton, who has announced her candidacy, was previously the Lieutenant Governor.
