Marc Chagall ( Vitebsk, Russia 7 July 1887 – Saint-Paul de Vence, France 28 March 1985) was a French of Russian - Jewish origin. Painter and Stained Glass Artist.
Chagall's artworks fit into modern art categories including Cubism and Fauvism. A painter-poet celebrated by Apollinaire and Cendrars, Chagall brought back the forgotten dimension of metaphor into French formalism.
