Leisler's Rebellion took place after the Glorious Revolution and the 1689 Boston revolt in the colony of New York. Jacob Leisler was a vocal opponent of the Dominion of New England, an administrative establishment encompassing several colonies into one colonial unit.

After the uprising, Leisler took control of the colony for two years, 1689 to 1691.
