Korean Air Lines Co., operating as Korean Air, is the largest airline of South Korea, with headquarters in Seoul, Korea. Korean Air's international passenger division and related cargo division together serve 130 cities in 45 countries. Its domestic division serves 20 destinations.

Its new corporate "Korean Air" logo featuring a stylized "taegukki" (Korean Flag) design was introduced on March 1, 1984 and the airline's name changed from Korean Air Lines to Korean Air. These changes took place as result of the Soviet shooting down of Korean Airlines Flight 007 in international waters just west of Sakhalin Island on Sept. 1, 1983. KAL 007 had been carrying 269 passengers and crew including 22 children under the age of 12, and a sitting U.S. congressman, conservative Democrat from Georgia, Larry McDonald. The logo for the prior "Korean Air Lines" had been a stylized bird figure. "Flight 007" numbering was also discontinued after the shootdown for Korean Air flights on the same route.
