John Kenneth Blackwell (born February 28, 1948) served as the Secretary of State of Ohio from 1999 through 2007 and was the unsuccessful Republican nominee for Governor in 2006. He is currently Vice Chairman of the Republican National Committee's platform committee and was co-chairman of President George W. Bush's 2004 reelection campaign. A staunch social conservative, Blackwell is "unabashedly pro-life" [1] and led the fight for a state constitutional ban on same sex marriage and civil unions.

Blackwell served as Mayor of Cincinnati from 1979-1980 and later undersecretary of Housing and Urban Development under President George H.W. Bush.
