Norvell Kay Granger (born January 18, 1943) is an American Republican politician from the U.S. state of Texas. She has represented the state's 12th congressional district in the U.S. House of Representatives since 1997. Prior to that she served as the mayor of Fort Worth.
She has been the ranking member of the United States House Committee on Appropriations since 2019, when Rodney Frelinghuysen retired.
Political positions
Foreign policy
Granger voted to condemn former U.S. President Donald Trump's withdrawal from Syria.[1] Nevertheless, Trump endorsed Granger in the 2020 Republican primary against the strongly conservative Chris Putnam.[2]
Abortion
Until 2020, she supported abortion.[3] In 2007, she said that abortion is contingent on "the woman, her physician, and her own family.”
In 2020, she joined many GOP representatives and senators as well as conservative Democrat Representatives Dan Lipinski of Illinois and Collin Peterson of Minnesota in opposition to including an abortion requirement in health care plans.[2] It is unclear if Granger's change of heart is genuine or was undertaken to help her defeat the pro-life Putnam.
