Joseph Draper Sayers (September 23, 1841 - May 15, 1929) was an American politician who served as the 22nd Governor of Texas.
Birth
Joseph Sayers was born September 23, 1841 to Dr. David Sayer and his wife Mary Thomas in Grenada, Mississippi, soon after his mothers death in 1851, his family moved and settled in Bastrop, Texas.
Political career
In 1885 he became a Member of the U.S. House of Representatives from Texas's 10th district and served in that office until 1893.
As Governor of Texas
In 1899, he became the 22nd Governor of Texas, in 1900, the Galveston Hurricane occurred during his time in office as Governor of Texas.
