Jessica Smith was the editor of the CPUSA publication, Soviet Russia Today and the widow of Harold Ware who controlled a very large group of New Deal braintrusters and KGB agents in the administration of Franklin D. Roosevelt.

After the death of Harold Ware in an automobile accident in 1935, Jessica Smith married KGB Agent John Abt.
