Dr. Jane Orient, Director of the Association of American Physicians and Surgeons (AAPS). The conservative doctors' association the AAPS has always been against ObamaCare while the liberal American Medical Association endorsed it.[1][2]

Jane Orient, M.D. is executive director of the Association of American Physicians and Surgeons (AAPS). She has served as executive director of AAPS since 1943. In addition, she is the president of Doctors for Disaster Preparedness and chairman of the Public Health Committee of the Pima County (Arizona) Medical Society. Furthermore, she is a policy advisor to The Heartland Institute.[3] Orient has been in solo practice of general internal medicine in Tucson, Arizona since 1981 and is a clinical lecturer in medicine at the University of Arizona College of Medicine.[4]

Orient has appeared on major television and radio networks in the United States speaking about issues related to reforming America's healthcare system. In addition, her op-eds have been published in hundreds of local and national newspapers, magazines, internet, followed on major blogs and covered in the Wall Street Journal and the New York Times.[5]

Dr. Orient is editor of AAPS News, the Doctors for Disaster Preparedness Newsletter, and Civil Defense Perspective. In addition, she is managing editor of the Journal of American Physicians and Surgeons.

Dr. Jane Orient's policy positions

When asked the question, "If you could change or eliminate something about the healthcare system, what would it be?" by Medpage Today, Orient replied, "Third-party payment. Patient should pay doctor; insurer should reimburse patient."[6]

When Medpage Today asked "What's the biggest barrier to practicing medicine today?", Orient replied, "Interference and second-guessing by vested interests with no responsibility to patients -- insurers, regulatory agencies, and increasingly, purveyors of lucrative specialty board products ("maintenance of certification")."[7]

Dr. Orient's publications in the scientific literature and popular literature

More than 100 of her papers have been published in the scientific and popular literature on a variety of subjects including risk assessment, natural and technological hazards and nonhazards, and medical economics and ethics.

Orient has also authored a series of books for schoolchildren - namely, Professor Klugimkopf’s Old-Fashioned English Grammar and Professor Klugimkopf’s Spelling Method, published by Robinson Books. In addition, she coauthored the two novels Neomorts and Moonshine which are Kindle books.

Education

Orient received her undergraduate degrees in chemistry/mathematics at the University of Arizona. She received her M.D. from Columbia University College of Physicians and Surgeons.

Medical residency: Internal medicine residency at Parkland Memorial Hospital and University of Arizona Affiliated Hospitals.
