James P. Cannon

James P. Cannon (1890-1974) was an American Communist/Trotskyist and radical trade unionist. He is most well known for his contributions to the 4th International, Socialist Workers Party, and the Wobblies. His radical ideas came from his Irish populist father who influenced him early in his life.

He was arrested and convicted under the Smith Act for conspiring to overthrow the government of the United States. After he was released from jail. He went back to working for the Socialist Workers Party. In 1953, he decided to retire. James P. Cannon died on August 21, 1974 at the age of 84.^[1]
