Jacques de Molay

Jacques de Molay, also known as James of Molay, was the last Grand Master of the Order of the Poor Knights of the Temple of Solomon, or the Knights Templar. Molay had been a Templar since he was about twenty years old, and he was elected Grand Master when he was forty-nine. He was Grand Master from 1293-1314. The Templars were alleged to be heretics and were tried. Most scholars and historians regard the trial of the Templars to be unfair. On 18 March 1314, de Molay was sentenced to die by being burned at the stake. De Molay proclaimed his innocence until his death.
