The Gunpowder Incident occurred one day after the Battle of Lexington and Concord in Williamsburg, Virginia. Lord Dunmore issued orders to remove gunpowder from the magazine in Williamsburg, which caused a huge controversy with local colonists. In response, Patrick Henry led a small militia force which demanded the return of the gunpowder.

The issue was resolved when a fair payment was made for the value of the powder.
