Gavrilo Princip (1894 - 1918) was a 19-year-old Serbian nationalist whose assassination of the Archduke Franz Ferdinand, heir to the throne of the Austro-Hungarian Empire, and his wife in Sarajevo on June 28, 1914, sparked World War I. Princip, who was the member of a terrorist group known as the Black Hand, died in prison less than four years later from Tuberculosis brought on by poor conditions.
Early life
Gavrilo was the son of Marija and Petar Princip, he was born on July 25, 1894, in Obljaj.
Imprisonment
Gavrilo was imprisoned in the Terezin Fortress until his death on April 28, 1918, brought on by poor conditions, his cause of death was Tuberculosis.
