Gary Faye Locke is a Chinese-American politician who served as Governor of Washington from 1997 to 2005, and was succeeded by Christine Gregoire. He is the former United States Secretary of Commerce. To this day, he remains the only Chinese-American to serve as a United States governor.

Throughout much of his career, Locke was considered a possible Vice Presidential candidate by the Democratic Party.

In 2003, after rebutting President George W. Bush's 2003 State of the Union address, Locke is said to have received hundreds of threats in letter and e-mail form, with several threatening the safety of Locke's children. This is said to have contributed to his decision to leave office.

In 2008, Locke was considered a forerunner for the position of Secretary of the Interior in the Obama administration. Eventually, however, Ken Salazar was chosen for that position.

Locke was sworn in as Secretary of Commerce on March 26, 2009.

Locke currently serves as the United States Ambassador to China.
