Gab (website)

Gab is an alternative social networking service to Twitter created by Andrew Torba that emerged due to blatant disregard for free speech by leftist social media platforms. It is based in Clarks Summit, Pennsylvania. Unlike Parler, Gab owns its own servers, hence Big Tech cannot pull the plug in its operations. The site is populated with a majority of right-leaning users, although all speech protected under the first amendment is welcome. Gab's motto is "Speak Freely" and their mascot (pictured) is "Gabby" the frog.

Gab does not engage in censorship as leftist social networking sites do (often illegally and immorally) against voices, opinions and platforms they do not like. Because of this, Gab has been unjustly attacked by the anti-free speech Mainstream Media and Wikipedia as "far-right" and "anti-Semitic".[1][2][3][4]

After the Tree of Life synagogue shooting, GoDaddy, Joyent, PayPal, Shopify, Stripe, and Medium all banned Gab. Conservatives criticized the move citing how anti-Semitic speech can also be found on Facebook and Twitter among leftists. On October 31, 2018, Torba wrote on Twitter, "Someone turned on the propane tank on my parent’s gas grill, turned the burner on, and let the propane leak out." The fire company was called; Torba indicated on the post that the incident was part of a co-ordinated campaign of attacks on Gab and terroristic attacks and death threats against Torba and his family by unhinged anti-free speech leftists influenced by the liberal media and its baseless hit pieces about Gab.[5][6] On November 3, 2018, Gab changed its registrar to Epik;[7] a move which was later unreasonably criticized by leftist hate group the SPLC.[8] On November 4, 2018, Gab was brought back online.[9]

On July 4, 2019, Gab switched its codebase to a fork of Mastodon, which made Gab uncensorable and decentralized.[10] In response, Eugen, the Leftist creator of Mastodon, criticized the move by calling Gab a "sinking ship" and a "white supremacist social network."

[11] In the same post, Eugen called for third party Mastodon apps to ban the gab.com domain, so in response, Tusky and Toot! obliged.[12][13][14]

Gab also developed a web browser named Dissenter, an open source web browser based on Brendan Eich’s Brave Browser,[15] that allows conversations around individual URL's and creates a public square on them where anyone can leave a comment.[16]

In January 2021, Gab experienced a greater than 750% increase in web traffic[17] and gained millions of new users.[18] Members of Congress Marjorie Taylor Greene, Lauren Boebert, and Madison Cawthorn registered accounts on Gab that same month. Others currently on Gab include Mike Lindell, The Gateway Pundit, Kaitlin Bennett, Mark Dice, Sidney Powell, the Republican Party of Texas, Kelli Ward, Laura Loomer, and Milo Yiannopoulos.

Attack on Gab by the Left

Gab CEO Andrew Torba recently reported that Gab has come under attack by a highly suspicious wave of new accounts on the site that have promoted and threatened violence;[19] Torba attributes the suspicious activity to a suspected psyop campaign being co-ordinated by the Democrat-corrupted CIA via its Operation Mockingbird campaign, then pointed out that Gab has a zero tolerance policy toward such behavior and, after obtaining information on the violence-promoting accounts (including screenshots of violent posts) to use as evidence for law enforcement, will act to terminate the offending accounts.

Gab CEO Andrew Torba pointed out that by framing them for the Antifa-instigated attack on the United States Capitol Building on January 6, 2021, the Left has created another excuse to censor Gab and other conservative social media sites[20] (done as part of Antifa's infiltration into the large gathering of Trump supporters who met to protest the Democrat Party's illegal theft of the 2020 presidential election in Washington, D.C.), which later led to the death of Trump supporter Ashli Babbitt when she was allegedly shot in the neck by a U.S. Capitol Police officer inside the Capitol. As part of the attack on Gab, the New York Times published a hit piece against the site that made baseless claims against Gab and other conservative social media sites, claiming without proof that the anti-election theft protests had been organized primarily on those sites.

On March 1, 2021, Gab published a press release acknowledging it was subject to a SQL Injection breach involving 70 gigabytes of publicly available information, direct messages and hashed passwords.[21][22] The contents of the breach was made available to left-wing journalists by the criminal "hacktivist" organization DDoSecrets.[23] Gab CEO Andrew Torba referred to the hackers as "mentally ill tranny demon hackers." The vulnerability appears to a query verification API used to "sanitize user-input" in the Gab timeline.[24]
