FreeBSD is an open source operating system based on the Berkeley Software Distribution (BSD) Unix. It is utilized by a variety of servers, desktops, and embedded computers.[2] In the base package, it includes the kernel, device drivers, and a shell tool.[3] It also offers over 20,000 packages (pre-compiled software bundles).[4] FreeBSD was developed by volunteers from many different parts of the world, and was first released on November 1, 1993. It is made publicly available for any purpose, granted that they are given credit.[5]
