Fortnite is an online shooter video game developed by Epic Games, and released in 2017.[1] It has become a very profitable game for its publisher.[2] However, the game has a reputation for its players becoming addicted to it.[3][4][5][6]
The Start
Fortnite was first released on July 21st 2017 (Save The World) and was only available to those who bought Save The World until Fortnite went public in September 2017, it gained popularity at the start of 2018 and quickly become one of the most popular games in the world, as of December 2020 most of the old players have quit due to the game not being as fun as at it was 2-3 years ago.
Controversy
Fortnite has become scrutinized for the game causing people to become addicted and even to quit their jobs to play Fortnite. Some kids who play it are so addicted that they have become violent when they are forced off their game by their parents, and even becoming real-life criminals.[7] Kids have also skipped school to play the game, which damages their education and life chances.
Video Games Cause Violence Claim
Parents have criticized Fortnite and other shooting games for causing kids to become violent, this claim has gotten little evidence to prove this claim is true or false. However some Fortnite addicted kids have become murderers or criminals however the claim is still unproven to this day.
Bullying
There are news stories that have shown that if a kid does not buy V-Bucks to buy skins and other items for ingame, they are most likely going to get bullies by their friends and peers, there is also a voice chat system in Fortnite which can open the gate for bullying, many people have reported harassment through the voice chat.
Addiction
A lot of people have gotten addicted to this game, some even quit their jobs and stopped going to school just to play fortnite, some kids become violent from it.
