The attraction appears to be the shifting patterns of players in a game having an element of chance and appearance of progress. An added amount of violence and greater scoring in the American version boosts its popularity among Americans.
The internet features commentary on how to overcome the addiction, which plagues Europeans too. Violence can actually break out among fans at some European events.
