The fifty-seven states flap involved a remark Barack Obama made about how many states he had visited on the campaign trail. Although he may have meant 47, critics noted that there are 57 Islamic states and used the remark or slip as evidence of Obama being secretly Muslim.
Obama may have been confusing the 47 out of 48 states (other than Alaska and Hawaii) in the continental United States of America.
