Eric Brakey (born August 8, 1988) is a libertarian Republican politician from Maine who served from the state's 20th district from 2014 to 2018 for the Maine state Senate. Brakey previously worked for Ron Paul's 2012 presidential campaign as the Maine state director.[1] He also ran in 2018 for U.S. Senate, unsuccessfully challenging Angus King for the latter's Senate seat.[2]

Maine Senate
While serving in the Maine legislature, Brakey co-sponsored a bill to allow statewide concealed carry without a permit.[3]
Brakey co-sponsored a bill in March 2016 to allow terminally ill patients to use experimental treatments.[4]
Brakey has voted in favor of banning conversion therapy for minors.[5]
2020 U.S. House election in Maine's 2nd district
Brakey ran for the U.S. House seat held by Jared Golden, a progressive Democrat who was elected in the 2018 blue wave and had voted for one of the two sham articles of impeachment brought against Donald Trump.[6] He ultimately lost in the primary, with candidate Dale Crafts finishing first place.[7] Brakey's bid was endorsed by the libertarian and movement conservative Rand Paul.[8]
Political positions
Brakey is generally considered to be a libertarian who mostly takes conservative positions, being pro-life, supportive of gun rights, school choice, and opposed to neocon-backed wars.[9] However, he also supports the recreational use of marijuana and is opposed to the death penalty.
