Edward Telfair (1735 – September 17, 1807) was a governor of the state of Georgia and a member of the Continental Congress in 1778, 1780, 1781, and 1782. He was also one of the signers of the Articles of Confederation.[1]
Early life
Telfair was born in Town Head, Scotland. He attended the Kirkcudbright Grammar School and later acquired commercial training. Telfair immigrated to Virginia in 1758 and served as agent of a commercial house. He later moved to Halifax, North Carolina; in 1766, he established a commission house in Savannah, Georgia.
Continental Congress
Edward Telfair served as a member of the Continental Congress in 1778, 1780, 1781, and 1782; he was one of the signers of the Articles of Confederation and a delegate to the State ratification convention for those same Articles.
Death
Telfair died in Savannah on September 17, 1807, and was interred in Bonaventure Cemetery.
