Eddie Van Halen (1955-2020) was a masterful guitarist and co-founder of the eponymous rock band, "Van Halen." Born in the Netherlands, his family immigrated to southern California when he was young.

In one poll he was ranked as the greatest guitarist of all time. His concerts were enormously entertaining and frequently sold out.

Hit songs by his band include:

  • Jump (reached No. 1 in 1984)
  • Panama
  • Hot for Teacher
  • Runnin' With the Devil
  • Why Can't This Be Love?

In addition, Eddie Van Halen played the guitar solo on Michael Jackson's song Beat It, which is considered one of the top 500 songs ever.

Eddie Van Halen was also an inventor and held three patents related to guitars.
