Eczema is a variant of dermatitis - an inflammation of the epidermis and dermis. It is broadly employed, as a term, to a range of chronic or recurrent rashes which often result in redness, skin edema, itching and dryness. In more serious conditions, blistering or bleeding can occur, often leading to infection. Temporary skin discoloration is a common aftermath, this rarely leads to scarring.
