Rule by diktat (dik-tät), dictate or decree refers to a totalitarian or single party regimes' undemocratic system of governance.
A diktat can take the form of an Executive Order, legislative mandate by a party that advocates' single party control, or regulation from a government agency with a strictly political aim targeting basic constitutional, civil, or human rights.
Gun seizure laws, free speech restrictions, and healthcare mandates are examples of diktats that violate basic rights.
