DeStijl was an art movement which lasted from 1917 to 1931 in Holland. It sought to eliminate all emotion from art and was characterized severe geometry and precise mechanical order that is not found in the natural world. The foremost artist of the DeStijl movement was Piet Mondrian, whose works are based on lines and rectangles and a strictly limited color scheme.
