Cooperative Baptist Fellowship

The Cooperative Baptist Fellowship (CBF) is an alliance of former Southern Baptist churches which formed its own group in 1991.

The CBF formed in reaction to the Convention's conservative theological resurgence which started in 1979.

Although its website gives the appearance of simply being a group of Baptists who care about missions, the group is theologically liberal (for example, it accepts women in the pastorate, which the SBC does not).

When it formed, the majority of state associations remained with the SBC, but the Texas and Virginia state associations became "dually aligned" with both groups (in response, conservative SBC churches in those states formed separate associations which are solely affiliated with the SBC, though they do not prohibit affiliated churches to be dually aligned with both state associations).
