The Continuation War is the name given to the war between the Soviet Union and Finland in the period 1941–44, when in alliance with Germany Finland sought to reverse its losses in the Winter War of 1939–40.
As part of the 1944 armistice, Finland had to remove German troops from its territory. This led to the brief Lapland War between Finland and its former ally.
Finland was the only European nation to have a border with the Soviet Union before World War II and not end up as a Soviet satellite state.
