C.S. Lewis' Space Trilogy

C.S. Lewis' Space Trilogy is a trilogy of books called Out of the Silent Planet, Perelandra, and That Hideous Strength. The main character of the books is Dr. Elwin Ransom, a philologist, who finds himself in a battle of good vs. evil.

Out of the Silent Planet

The first in the space trilogy. It introduces the main character, Ransom. While hiking one day he is kidnaped and taken into outer space [1] He is taken to a planet called Malacandra [2] where he must be handed over to some strange alien creatures called sorns. He escapes and meets other aliens on the planet called hrossa[3] He eventually goes to see the ruler of Malacandra, Oyarsa. He also meets his captors again and is sent back (freely of his own will) to his own planet. He comes back and according to the story lets a fictional Lewis in on the secret. They decide to publish his time on Malacandra as a fictional novel.[4]

Perelandra

The second in the space trilogy. It has Ransom sent to Perelandra [5] to stop an evil that the devil has put into action there. He represents good against evil, which is represented by one of his kidnappers, Professor Weston. He manages to help stop Perelandra from becoming another fallen world. Perelandra ascends to perfection.[6]

That Hideous Strength

The third and last in the space trilogy. It involves the final battle of good vs. evil. It includes Ransom the least of the three books. It also involves the return of Dick Devine from Out of the Silent Planet as the Lord Feverstone.[7]
